Randy Rand, the bassist for the Autograph, passed away yesterday. “It is with tremendous regret and heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of Randy Rand, a beloved friend and founding member of Autograph,” the band wrote in a post on social media.

In a statement, the band said, “We spent uncountable hours collectively over the previous couple of years with this lineup, forging an unshakable friendship few bands are fortunate enough to ever experience.”

Randy Rand, who is he?

Rand began his musical career in the Sunset Strip area in the mid-’70s, where he was a member of various bands. He formed Autograph with Steve Plunkett, Steve Lynch, Steven Isham, and Keni Richards in 1984.

The group’s debut album, Sign in Please, landed at number one on the Billboard 200 chart in 1985. After two more albums, That’s the Stuff and Loud and Clear, the band disbanded in 1989.

Randy went on to make leather goods after the band disbanded, and he claimed in a 2012 interview that when the band disbanded, they realised it was time to move on. He also expressed his displeasure with the chase of success.

Autograph reassembled in the early 2000s with numerous new members and released the album Buzz. They disbanded once more, but Rand, Lynch, and Richards agreed to reconstitute the band in 2013, with the addition of vocalist Simon Daniels.

Get Off Your A** was released in 2017 and Louder was released in 2016. Rand was the last remaining member of the band after Lynch had quit at the time of his death.
