Calista’s early career
Calista was in New York loving the theater scene and wasn’t interested in TV at the moment, but a friend sent her the Ally McBeal screenplay and convinced her to apply. She landed the part, and she became the American equivalent of Bridget Jones, as well as a part of the zeitgeist. Calista became a heroine for young professional women yearning for love, and she had a $100,000-a-week career, a nice departure from the days when she couldn’t pay two months’ rent at once. She starred in many famous films and TV shows like – Lifestories- families in crises, Naked in New York, Drunks, The Birdcage, The last shot, Full Circle, Fragile etc. In the 1999 cinematic adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Flockhart played role of Helena.
